Triple boot
MAC Mountain Lion,
Windows 7, and Ubuntu 12.04
Ok.
I need to write this tutorial while it’s still fresh in my
mind. I’m very happy that once again after days of hard work, I finally succeeded
this challenge. To boot three (3) different operating system is too hard,
aside they aren’t play nice with each
other you must also consider some hardware issues.
I almost got crazy doing it over and over again. Why? Because it is fun to prove theories. And I need it in my everyday life as IT Professional. And the best of all, it is worth it when you finally succeeded.
I almost got crazy doing it over and over again. Why? Because it is fun to prove theories. And I need it in my everyday life as IT Professional. And the best of all, it is worth it when you finally succeeded.
To end this introduction, let me now start the tutorial.
Ingredients:
- Intel I7, Gigabyte Mobo, 8gig RAM, GeForce 7500GT, and 1TB WD HDD
- Downloaded MAC OSX ML Virtual Virtual Machine(VM)
- USB Flash Drive 8gb
- Unibeast, Multibeast, Kextwizard, Secrets, and boot0
- Buy and download Install OS X Mountain Lion from Apple
- Ubuntu 12.04 (CD Installer)
- Buy Windows 7 64bit (DVD Installer)
- Cup of coffee
- Patience
Steps:
- On mobo's BIOS go to SATA Control Mode change it to "AHCI"
- Change HPET mode to 64-bit mode
- Prepare your Windows PC (I assume)
- Run downloaded MAC OSX (VM) with Virtual Box
- Copy Install OS X Mountain Lion inside the Applications folder
- Insert 8gb USB flash drive and mount it on your running Mac OSX VM
- Format 8gb USB flash drive use Mac OS Extended (Journaled) name it OSXInstaller
- Download and Run Unibeast (Inside Mac OSX Virtual Machine!)
- Choose the 8gb USB flash drive, Click Next…
- Then wait for a minute. Click Finish when it’s done
- Now you have successfully created a bootable USB Mac OSX Mountain Lion!
- Now restart the PC and set the USB as first boot device in Mobo’s BIOS
- Save and Restart PC
- In the Unibeast boot menu, Select OSXInstaller
- Wait until the language selection in MAC OSX Installation shows up
- Go to Disk Utility and Set 4 Partition, Set GUID Partition Table in partition option
- MAC(200gig) "Mac OSX (Extended Journaled)"- To be use as my main OS
- Windows(80gig) "MS-DOS FAT32"- To be use as my auxiliary OS
- Data(700gig) "MS-DOS FAT32" - To be use as storage for all files
- Linux(20gig) "MS-DOS FAT32" - To be use as my auxiliary OS
- After partitioning, Install MAC OSX Mountain Lion into MAC Partition
- Zip a cup of coffee
- After Mac OSX Installation, it will restart automatically and boot into Unibeast again
- Select MAC Operating System you installed, then set your preferences and profiles
- Next, log in as root
- In Finder Preferences tick Hard disk. External disk, and CDs, DVDs, and iPods
- Extract Secrets.zip and use Secrets to show hidden files
- Copy boot file and Extra folder from Unibeast(USB) to MacOSX Partition
- Run Multibeast. In Drivers & Bootloaders, select Chimera v2 under Bootloaders
- Then click continue to install Chimera v2.
- When its done, run Kext Wizard. Select Extra(Repair permissions and Rebuid mkext)
- And System/Library/Extensions(Repair permissions) dont select Rebuild cache. Then click Execute
- Eject Unibeast(USB), and reboot MacOSX. Then go to mobo's BIOS
- Check if your 1TB WD HDD is set to boot first. When you proceed to boot the HDD
- Then it will shows boot0: GPT test error. Because we are using 1TB HDD, a.k.a 4k drives
- So you need too boot Unibeast(USB) again. Select OSXInstaller
- In Disk Utility, unmount MacOSX Partition. Then go to Terminal(Still in Mac Installation)
- Then do this command. (But if you have 500gb HDD below you don't need to do this)
- Exit Terminal and reboot
- Go to mobo's BIOS and set 1TB WD HDD as first boot device
- Now you shouldn't see that error again and it must boot into Unibeast boot Menu without USB
- Since we have successfully booting MacOSX. Now its time to install Windows 7 64bit
- Go to mobo's BIOS and set CD/DVD as first boot device
- Insert and install Windows 7 to its Partition. Set your preferences and profiles
- In Windos 7, go to Disk Management, Quick Format Data partition. Use NTFS
- Restart windows. Insert Ubuntu 12.04 CD Installer, select Install Ubuntu
- Install Ubuntu in Linux partition, Install boot loader in /dev/sda (Not in Ubuntu partition)
- After Ubuntu installation. login as root
- Copy boot0 inside Ubuntu root folder (/)
- Edit grub, gedit /boot/grub/grub.cfg
- Goto terminal and "apt-get install gptsync" (without quotes)
- Next, align partition by entering "gptsync /dev/sda", then type "y" to proceed (without quotes)
- Reboot Ubuntu. it should boot into Grub menu
- Test if all Operating Systems are working, If you need to use MacOSX just select Chimera
- All done. Enjoy your triple boot Operating System...
